Captain's Welcome

It is an honour and privilege to have been elected Captain for the year 2017 and as well as welcoming you to our website I would invite you all to come along and test your skills on our ever-improving course. You will receive a warm welcome from our staff, and hopefully relax and enjoy the traditional hospitality which Lee on the Solent Golf Club prides itself on offering.

The club was founded in 1905, and many improvements over the years have ensured that the course remains a challenge for all standards of golfers. The five par three holes remain the main hurdle to many a good card, and although inland the South-westerly breezes are a constant reminder of the sea nearby. A course that you will never tire of playing and a course that will not tire you, a comfortable walk round, but still requiring respect, careful thought, planning and shot selection is needed to score well. Some recently moved and refurbished strategic bunkers have enhanced the course and provide a good test for both high and low handicap golfers.

The Community Golf Centre opens this year which I hope will further enhance our facilities and provide the Juniors with a dedicated practice ground and an area where all members of the community are welcome to come and try the game. We are proud of our Juniors track records and have been instrumental in nurturing the talents of many young golfers who have gone on have successful professional careers, including a Ryder Cup player.

Our modern Clubhouse provides a friendly and comfortable atmosphere in which to relax after your round, and provides an ideal venue for the many social events we hold throughout the year. We welcome visiting players in the hope that they will enjoy a challenging game followed by a celebratory drink in the Clubhouse. Our catering operation offers a varied and interesting menu to satisfy all appetites and our facilities are available for private functions and society visits.

Our Club Professional, Jon Barnes, ably assisted by the assistant professional, Jack Coulbert, provide excellent coaching lessons and keep a well-stocked Professional shop.

Our Manager, Terry Smith, will be pleased to provide further details about these and any other aspects of the Club. Should you be interested in becoming a member, use the facilities or just visit, Terry and the Pro Shop team will be pleased to arrange for you to have a look round and to give you more information.
